'[I] spilt a whole tray of drinks over the same man twice': 20+ Hospitality workers who made giant mistakes at work

Everyone has an "off" day at work every now and again. You can't expect perfection from humans! 

Bosses certainly demand perfection from their employees, but there's not much they can do when a waiter drops a tray of waters on the ground, or a cashier accidentally overcharges a customer. That's why they say "don't cry over spilled milk," because accidents happen, and all you can do is try your hardest not to mess up again. But look… some of these waiters, waitresses, and retail workers messed up pretty bigly, like the waiter who sampled a cheese fry, then forgot to wipe their mouth before handing the plate to the customer. Big yikes! 

For seasoned hospitality workers, I'd be curious to know how you deal with mistakes. Do customers appreciate a heartfelt apology from you, or do you just hide in the back room and allow your manager to smooth things over? I suppose it depends on the customer as well — we all know that some customers will take any opportunity to complain, and cannot be satisfied by any solution except having their whole meal comped. Ugh.
